HTS ( Hertfordshire Theatre School ) was founded by John Gardiner and Kirk Foster in 1989. Their aim was to establish a school in Hertfordshire that would offer a vocational, professional acting course, rivaling the more established London based schools, whilst keeping their training affordable and personal to their students. Although a relatively young school it has already gained a reputation for itself in the business as a school that produces performers of a very high standard of artistic ability and professionalism. As with all major drama schools our students have gone on to perform in the West End , TV and film industries. At HTS we believe that creating your own work is an important component of being a successful performer, and we are pleased to note that several new companies are now run by ex students. Whilst several others have gone on to write for various mediums, including TV and theatre. We offer two courses the three year diploma in Acting and Musical Theatre plus a One Year Integrated Post-Graduate Course. The Policy In a nutshell; the first year is learning the basics and removing any previously acquired bad habits, the second year is about exploring, raking risks and breaking barriers whilst the third year is about preparing for the reality of the profession. The course is ‘acting' based and aims to produce actors that can sing and dance. The split between disciplines is 50% acting, 30% singing and 20% dance.
