West End Showcase

Showcase Preparation at The Fortune Theatre, London
3rd Year Graduates 2003 in their opening showcase scene

Like all professional drama schools HTS produces a West End Showcase. This is usually performed at the Fortune Theatre in London 's West End at the end of June, beginning of July. This is an opportunity to publicly introduce our students to the professional world of agents and casting directors (although both agents and casting directors do regularly see all of our students in shows throughout the year).

We are aware how busy an agent's working day is, so our showcases always run for approx 60mins – during which time every student will be ‘shown' on stage at least 4 times. Unlike many drama schools we do not allow our students to perform monologues or solo songs, as we believe that it is more interesting to be seen interacting with another performer. This also enables us to keep our Showcase succinct (one of the main criticisms we ever hear about Showcases in general is the length of the show – with agents having to leave half way through, therefore missing half of the graduating year!).

If you have been fortunate enough to make it through to your Showcase you will get to chose 2 pieces which you think will show you off to your best potential. One of these pieces can be a song. The pieces are chosen in collaboration with the Principal and the Head of Musical Theatre, and at the end of the day their decision will be final. As well as your two chosen pieces you will also perform in two choral ensemble pieces. This will enable those of you who opt not to sing to show some vocal aptitude in a group situation.

We aim for our Showcase to be an entertaining hour for our audience, not simply a parade of new faces, and as such have developed quite a following from agents and industry professionals.
